How to Honor & Celebrate Lughnasadh
The Harvest Festival Sabbat of Lughnasadh
August 1st/2nd
Lammas, also known as Lughnasad, or Lughnassadh, is known as a pagan holiday or Sabbat, that reveres this day as a celebration of the First Grain Harvest, a time for gathering with loved ones, expressing gratitude, & celebrating abundance. It is one of the eight yearly festivals that observe the equinoxes and turning points in the seasons known as the Wheel of Year. Pagans & Witches also recognizes this day as the great festival for the Celtic Sun God, Lugh & the Great Grain Mother, Tailtiu; who died of exhaustion from clearing the plains in Ireland for agriculture. The other origin story is that Lughnasadh was a celebration of Lugh’s marriage.
Lammas is a great time to reflect & celebrate on what you have accomplished so far this, but also to remember what you are still striving for.

AUGUST CORN POTPOURRI
4 Ears Corns for luck & protection
2 teaspoons Sea Salt for protection & blessing
Spring Water
Remove the husks and silk from the corn and rinse it clean. In a large pot, bring water to boil. Add the salt and then add the corn, cooking until tender, about 5 to 10 minutes. Remove the corn from the water with tongs and set aside. Add the husks and silk to the pot and turn the heat down so that it just simmers. You can leave the pot simmering for as long as desired, adding water if needed. Serve the cooked corn with butter, as it can become food magick for luck, protection, and transformation.

1 Tablespoon Rosemary for protection, cleansing, & blessing
1 Tablespoon of Dried Apple Peel for love & healing
1/4 teaspoon Barley for love & protection
1 Pinch Whole Wheat Flour for abundance & fertility

BRIGID BLACKBERRY PIE RECIPE
Blackberries, a plant sacred to the Irish Goddess Brigid and to the Norse Thunder God Thor, ripen in July & August, and gentle blackberry wines are made from them and dedicated to these deities before Mabon. In Ireland there was, and still is, a folk taboo against eating blackberries after Mabon. Other regions have similar taboos against any simmer berries or grapes after that date, but all berries made into wines for a Goddess or God have always been permissible to keep and use.
4 Cups fresh Blackberries (thawed frozen in okay)
1 1/2 Cup Sugar
1/3 Cup Flour
1/4 teaspoon Cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon Salt
Pre-made / Unbaked Pie Crust
Preheat oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a deep dish with pie crust, or purchase a commercially-made one. Set aside. Mix all other ingredients together in a large mixing bowl. If it appears too “wet”, mix in a little more flour (about 2 Tablespoons). Turn the fruit into the pie shell and dot with butter or margarine. You can bake the pie as is, or cover it with another pie crust. If you do this, pinch down the ends to hold it to the other crust. Then score the top several times with a sharp knife. Bake for 1 hour, or until the top crust is a golden brown.
